What is Orthodontic Treatment?

Orthodontics is the specialty of dentists who have been trained in this field and who diagnose and control the relationship between crowding and incompatibility in dental structures, try to prevent or correct this situation. In this treatment, it is aimed to eliminate the dental problems by examining the patient’s mouth, teeth and head structure in order to correct anomalies that are not suitable for normal work structure.

Why Do Orthodontic Problems Occur?

The positioning of the patient’s lower jaw forward or back, skeletal disorders or incompatibilities in the patient’s jaw structure are just a few of the orthodontic problems. When we look at the factors that create these problems; It is possible to count many factors such as delaying baby bottle and pacifier habits, sucking fingers and eating fingernails. At the same time, early primary teeths or late deciduous teeth losses also cause orthodontic problems.

Why Is Orthodontic Treatment Necessary?

In disorders such as the lower chin being anterior or posterior, the age of the patient is examined first and then the treatment method is decided. If the bone structure of the patient has not yet settled, that is, in adolescence, chin treatment is possible with orthodontic techniques. However, if the patient is an adult, chin treatment is carried out with the cooperation of orthodontics and surgery areas.

The treatment should be applied as early as possible in cases of wrongful habits such as feeding bottle and pacifier, nail-biting or finger sucking. Because it is very important to prevent such bad habits as early as possible in terms of the proper completion of skeletal development.

Although the wrong positioning, incompatibility and perplexity of the teeth in the mouth may result from the reasons mentioned above, it is necessary to remember the genetic aspect. As every gene is inherited from parents to their babies, dental disorders are also inherited.

Due to the many reasons we have mentioned, orthodontic treatments are applied today to create a beautiful smile, an aesthetic anatomical appearance, as well as a healthy tooth structure.

What Are Orthodontic Treatment Methods?

When it comes to dental braces in orthodontic treatments, one of the first things that come to mind of patients is dental braces prices. However, the first thing to consider should be the patient’s current illness and the treatment method to be applied to the patient. Today, there are 4 types of treatment methods that can vary according to the expectations of the patients. The wires to be used during the treatment are shaped according to many factors.

Metal Dental Braces

It is the oldest, most durable and most commonly used type of braces found and is applied with metal brackets. After examining the chin and dental structures of the patient, it is placed on the inner or outer surfaces of the teeth by the dentist. Although it has an aesthetically unsatisfactory appearance, it is a treatment method suitable for all problems in orthodontics. Healing is achieved in a period of 6 months to 2 years, depending on the disorders in the tooth structure. It is also the most affordable orthodontic treatment in terms of price.

Clear (Tooth colored) braces

Compared to metal braces, there are no significant differences in terms of treatment result. Clear (Tooth colored) braces treatment is performed with brackets made of porcelain-based material. For this reason, it gives the patient a much more aesthetic and natural appearance similar to the structure of the tooth. However, it should be kept in mind that it will not be as durable as metal braces, and much more care should be taken when treating Clear (Tooth colored) braces. For this reason, it may not be a suitable treatment method, especially for children.

Lingual Orthodontics (Invisible Dental Braces)

It is a treatment method that aims to eliminate the disturbing appearance of the dental braces. It is made by placing transparent or metal brackets on the invisible inner surfaces of the teeth. However, when compared in terms of treatment prices, it may contain a higher cost than metal or Clear (Tooth colored) braces.

Clear Aligner(Invisalign)

Transparent dental plaque, also known as “Invisalign”, is a combination of the words “invisible” meaning invisible and “aligner” meaning corrective. Invisalign method is used in cases where there are milder tooth crowding and chin disorders that require orthodontic treatment. Brackets and wires are not available in this application like other applications. For the patient’s tooth structure and the desired correction, the patient is subjected to special 3D measurements. In the light of the measurements made, clear aligner(Invisalign) are prepared for the patient and the treatment is carried out in this way.

Which one should I choose?

Although all orthodontic treatments fulfill the same function, the expectations of the patient have an important place in the decision-making phase. An aesthetic orthodontic treatment is more costly than traditional metal braces.
